The Freestyle Max earned our Best Cordless Upright badge among six evaluated models. Its 6.5/10 rating reflects comfortable floor movement alongside weaker hair management and limited versatility. The badge identifies the design’s role, rather than an across-the-board performance winner.
We use the same editorial weights as our cordless roundup. Each category is scored out of 10; the weighted average is 6.45, rounded to 6.5/10. These ratings summarize our documented observations, rather than an additional set of laboratory measurements.

Review scores
Review approach and evidence
Pros - Low-mounted motor and bin keep weight away from the grip. - Easy movement on hard floors and low-pile rugs. - Effective everyday hard-floor surface pickup. - Foot-operated controls simplify manual mode changes. Cons - No handheld conversion, hose, or above-floor attachments. - Non-swappable battery prevents extending a session with a spare. - Long hair needs manual roller clearing. - Deep carpet extraction is weaker than surface pickup. - Lower body restricts reach beneath low furniture.
Features
- Cordless upright design: Motor and dustbin sit low to reduce weight at the grip.
- Two cleaning modes: Foot-operated switch selects Low or High.
- Bottom-release dustbin: Opens from below for manual emptying.
- Floor charging cradle: Recharges the built-in, non-swappable battery.
Our detailed review
Hard-Floor Cleaning: Good Surface Pickup, With Some Residue
Low mode handled everyday debris effectively Fine dust, crumbs, and other surface debris were generally straightforward work in Low mode, with little scattering during our checks. Our recorded hard-floor trial produced 92–95% single-pass pickup. That result applies to the named trial rather than every debris type or surface.
The combination of controlled pickup and a light-feeling handle worked well on open flooring. For a regular route through accessible rooms, the Shark’s appeal is straightforward movement through everyday debris rather than a wide selection of cleaning formats. A faint fine-dust film could remain A faint film could remain after fine-dust cleaning, even when most surface debris had been collected. That visible residue is an important qualification to the pickup result.
If powder and fine dust dominate your cleaning, inspect the finish rather than judge only by the disappearance of crumbs. Our 7/10 hard-floor score accounts for useful everyday pickup and the residue sometimes left behind.
Carpet Cleaning: Surface Debris Is the Better Match
Low-pile rugs were comfortable to clean The Freestyle Max moved easily over low-pile rugs and handled surface debris more readily than dirt buried in the fibers. That makes lighter rugs a more useful extension of its hard-floor role than thick, demanding carpet.
For a home with a few rugs between bare-floor areas, this flexibility is useful. If most of the route is carpet, look more closely at extraction and resistance rather than assume comfortable steering tells the whole story. Plush carpet brought drag and weaker extraction Plush surfaces increased resistance, while embedded grit required more work than loose debris. We would not choose the SV2002 primarily for demanding carpet extraction.
Thick carpet changes both the work and the available time. Repeated passes are more demanding, and High mode provides a shorter session. If buried grit is the main reason for buying a vacuum, prioritize that job over the convenience of the upright’s handle feel.
